Cordis was founded in 1959 in Miami, Florida, as a medical device corporation. In 1993, Cordis acquired Webster and in 1996 Cordis merged with Johnson & Johnson Interventional Systems. Cordis believes its first responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and patients,to mothers and fathers and all others who use its products and services. Cordis constantly strives to reduce its costs in order to maintain reasonable prices. Cordis has a responsibility towards its employees and finally towards its stockholders. The company believes that research must be carried on and innovative programs developed. On September 28, 2005, Cordis announced the acquisition of LuMend, a privately-held company focused on the development of chronic total occlusion (CTO) devices to treat peripheral vascular disease.
