Labtec was founded in 1990 by Dr. Cordes, who was responsible for the development of the first nitroglycerine matrix patch (Deponit). It remains being a privately held company and considers some of the large pharmaceutical companies as ist R&D partners.
Labtec has extensive expertise in the development of transdermal patches for treatment of pain. In December 2005, Labtec´s licensee Ratiopharm launched its "Fentanyl-ratiopharm Matrix-Pflaster" - a fentanyl patch generic to Durogesic - which is the smallest patch of its class available in Europe. The product is approved and marketed in most European countries, Canada and Israel. In Germany, the world´s second biggest market for fentanyl patches, Labtec´s patch is marketed by various generic companies reaching a total market share of 38% of the 260 Mio EUR total German market.
An innovative transdermal patch containing the opiate sufentanil is in end of phase I and ready for partnering.
Labtec has developed one of the first matrix type estradiol patches, which is launched worldwide (Dermestril, Tradelia, Epiestrol). A transdermal patch "Levonor" for continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was approved in 2006.
Furthermore a insect after-bite patch has been introduced into the market by Beiersdorf AG, Germany in several European countries in spring 2002. The brand name is Hansaplast Insect Bite Patch.
Labtec has also developed Zalain® nail patch: the first nail patch for once-a-week treatment of onychomycosis & onychodystrophy. Zalain® is marketed by Trommsdorff GmbH since 2003.
Together with Applied Pharma Research S.A. ("APR"), a Swiss R&D company focusing on innovative drug delivery, Labtec is developing a novel oral thin film technology called RapidFilm(TM).
The facility has modern laboratories for drug development, GMP manufacturing and analytics. Labtec is authorised for the production of clinical supplies of all non-sterile drug preparations. However, our highest capital is the team of qualified and motivatedscientists and engineers.
Contract development
Are you the owner of a drug substance running out of patent in a few years? Then a couple of generics will come into the market and decrease your profits. The most effective way to boost your brand product is the introduction of a novel, innovative dosageform. Labtec's main business is the contract research and development of drug delivery systems, especially transdermal systems, including the GMP manufacturing of clinical supplies.
Our service to industrial clients includes selection, identification and characterisation of interesting substances, skin permeation, formulation work and development of analytical methods. It is continued with the GMP manufacturing of samples for clinical studies and stability testing. Scale up to pilot plant and further to manufacturing scale is performed in cooperation with the leading European contract manufacturers of transdermal systems. Our service is completed with drawing up the chemical-pharmaceutical documentation part of the registration file. However, our competence is not limited to transdermal systems. We also offer the development of nail patches, mucosal delivery systems, liposomes, nanosomes and fast dissolving dosage forms.
