Affitech was established in 1997 by a group of Norwegian and German Scientists. In September 2000, Affitech acquired Actigen (Cambridge, UK) from Active Biotech (Lund, Sweden). The acquisition of Actigen gave Affitech rights to antibody fragment purification tools including the rProteinL product range. In December 2001, Affitech established a wholly-owned subsidiary in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA. Affitech's business strategy is to generate short-term revenue through customer-based projects and out-licensing of technology assets and early stage products, and in addition to build a proprietary product pipeline through collaborations and partnerships. The company aims to acquire market access and complimentary technologies through partnerships with leading biopharmaceutical companies and research institutions.
