Procter & Gamble was founded in 1837 as a small, family operated soap and candle company. In 1917 the company established its Chemical Division to formalise research procedures and develop new products. Then in 1943 the company created the Drug Products Division to sell its growing line of toilet goods. In 1978 the company introduced Didronel, a treatment for Paget's disease. On September 30, 2005, The Procter & Gamble Company was informed that the Federal Trade Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of the Gillette Company. Procter & Gamble manufactures and markets a range of products around the world in the following business areas: Baby, Feminine and Family Care; Fabric and Home Care; Beauty Care; Health Care; and Food & Beverage. Procter & Gamble are committed to serving consumers and achieving leadership results through principle-based decisions and actions.
