Daewoong Pharmaceutical was established in 1945 as the Daehan Vitamin Chemical Industry Co. changing its name to Daewoong Pharmaceutical Company in 1978 after three decades of growth and five years of public trading of the company's shares. The company continued to grow during the 1980's with the establishement of the 'Daewoong Endowment Foundation' for Education and Social Welfare, the Daewoong Chemical Co. for Bulk Pharmaceutical Products and a Research & Development Center for Advanced Research in Human Medicine opening the Daewoong Training & Education Center in 1989. The company established a wholly owned subsidiary in 1990, Daewoong International followed by the Daewoong Management Development Institute and Daewoong Medical, for medical devices in 1995.
