Profile

The aim of St George’s University of London (SGUL) is to promote the prevention and treatment of diseases via excellence in research, teaching, innovation and clinical practice.

Our research benefits from being co-located with one of the busiest hospitals in the UK, St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, providing a broad patient catchment area and clinical trials activity. 

Centre of excellence for medical training and education in health and social care sciences, SGUL’s research interests encompass a broad spectrum from leading-edge fundamental investigations to applied clinical research.

Divisional research strengths include:

  • Basic Medical Sciences concentrates on cell signalling in health and disease states such as cancer, aging, Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease
  • Cardiac and Vascular Sciencesinvestigating diseases of the heart, circulation and neurosciencesCellular and Molecular Medicine offers expertise in acquired and inherited diseases such as cancer, MRSA and HIV
  • Clinical Developmental Sciencesfocuses on the molecular, cellular and genetic aspects of human development
  • Community Health Sciences centres on public health and preventive medicine
  • Mental Health works on social and community psychiatry and addiction research

Our multidisciplinary experts will work with you to provide innovative solutions, developing and delivering products and services.

The Centre for Enterprise and Innovation facilitates collaborations with business and promotes the development and commercialisation of innovative ideas and technologies, in the following ways:

  • Partnerships and Contract Research with industries, healthcare and academic institutions are of mutual benefit.
  • Technologies for licence are available and we welcome approaches from interested companies.
  • Expert Consultancy is facilitated at SGUL by providing a confidential, tailored service and multidisciplinary consultancy teams.
  • Clinical Trials Activity benefits from the co-location with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.

Customers will have access to a wide range of technology platforms, advice on experimental design and data analysis, expert training and academic mentoring by leading research groups.

  • A diagnostic test for tuberculosis
  • An early detection test for pre-eclampsia
  • A therapeutic peptide for the treatment of cancer
