The company in detail

Summary

The origins of the British Technology Group can be traced back to 1948 when the British government set up the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to commercialise British publicly funded research. Then over the years the agency discovered and developed Interferon, the hovercraft and Cephalosporin antibiotics among other pharmaceutical agents and technologies. Then in 1975 the British government set up the National Enterprise Board (NEB) to assist existing British enterprises and invest public funds into profitable areas of the manufacturing industry and in 1981 the NRDC and NEB come together as British Technology Group. IN 1998 the company established Torotrak a subsidiary to commercialise the Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) which cuts fuel consumption. Then in 1992 the company was privatised as BTG through an employee and management buy out and was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1995. Then in 1998 Torotrak was demerged from BTG. Finally in 1999 Provensis was formed to serve as a subsidiary to develop and market Varisolve a potential new treatment for varicose veins. BTG aims to combine a strong commercial focus with deep technical understanding to develop the innovation, enhance the Intellectual Property and achieve critical development milestones. The company's approach of shared rewards maximises the revenue generated for the sources of the technology, for those who bring it to market and for British Technology Group. As a result we have formed strong relationships with many of the world's most innovative research centres as well as major global technology companies.
