BioBusiness Network 2007

BioBusiness Network 2007

This September WBR is host to pharma’s premier and most exclusive global biopartnering event, BioBusiness Network 2007. Designed especially for pharma companies looking to inlicense or partner and small biotechs requiring funding, outlicensing or partners, the event has something for everyone.

The full 3-day schedule offers a mix of 1-2-1 partnering meetings, in-depth presentations and deal case studies, informal roundtable discussion groups and the opportunity to network with many senior-level executives, directors and CEOs. The event has a unique 50/50 pharma-biotech split and is almost exclusively focused on business development and licensing, making it the conference of choice for deal-makers.

As soon as you register for the event, you will be issued with a special password to access the state-of-the-art online partnering system. This allows you to plan your event schedule by allowing you to pre-arrange meetings with conference delegates.

Special focus sessions

Tailored to focus on the industry’s buzz areas in its comprehensively researched programme, BioBusiness Network 2007 presents a number of focus sessions including:

· Special focus on adaptive clinical trial design - With attrition rates going through the roof, pharmas and biotechs are rapidly turning towards new adaptive clinical trial design models that give them greater flexibility to change the direction of their work and improve their chances of success. But many questions remain: Will these new models really change the dynamics of the biotech industry that significantly? And just how open are the regulatory authorities to these new models?

· Special focus on proteins and new science - With such a scarcity of high-quality inlicensing opportunities, many pharmas are turning towards biologicals and the new generation of biotherapeutics as a source of new products. But non-antibody biologicals such as proteins have many additional risks associated with them and it’s not yet truly clear just how promising these new opportunities are. Will pharmas be missing a trick if they don’t jump onto these new technologies in the next 6 months? And are scaffolds really the key to making proteins work?

· Special focus on emerging markets - New markets often promise new untapped opportunities. But all too often those opportunities remain limited to cost-saving exercises in manufacturing and contract research. Where is the real innovation in these emerging markets? Is there any at all, and if not, how soon will it emerge? And where should pharmas focus their attention on in the immediate term? This session will include detailed overviews of Russia, India, China, Australia and Hungary.

High-level speakers at the event include representatives from every single one of the world’s top 10 pharmas:

· Alex Chanas, Senior Director, Worldwide Licensing & BD, Pfizer

· Dr Patricia Audet, Vice President Transactions, Worldwide BD, GlaxoSmithKline

· Dr Ray Hill, Head of Licensing & External Research, Europe, Merck & Co

· Joanne Kelley, Vice President, New Opportunities, AstraZeneca

· Alain Herrera, VP, Oncology Business Strategy & Development, Sanofi-Aventis

· Jules Musing, Vice President, Licensing & Business Development, Johnson & Johnson

· Dr George Golumbeski, Executive Vice President, BD Oncology, Novartis

· Lubor Gaal, Director, External Science Technology & Licensing, Bristol-Myers Squibb

· Alistair Strachan, Vice President, Licensing & Business Development, Wyeth

· Andrew Wood, Executive Director, Global External R&D Europe, Eli Lilly

New features

For the first time at BioBusiness, delegates will be able to get free private coaching to improve their 1-2-1 meeting skills. The conference organisers have hired the services of Christopher Barrat, a renowned speaker, writer and teacher of modern business communication and commercial skills with extensive experience of working with biotech and pharma companies. In addition to giving a Guest Address on how to create maximum impact in your 1-2-1 meetings and first contact with Big Pharma, Christopher will be available for free private coaching sessions throughout the main conference so biotechs can benefit from more tailored, individual advice.

There will also be a stronger than ever focus on dissecting the biggest and most creative deals of the last 12 months, with the following deals presented during the 3 days:

· Merck KGaA / Serono

· GSK / Genmab

· Sanofi-Aventis / Oxford Biomedica

· Merck / Sirna

· Eli Lilly / Hypnion

· Pfizer / PowderMed

· AstraZeneca / Arrow Therapeutics

· Novartis / Antisoma

· Genentech / PIramed

· Merck / Idera
