IN VIVO DATA CONFIRMS DELIVERY OF MORPHINE

Release issued 28th November 1999

TransDermal Technologies, Inc. announced today the release of the latest pre-clinical data validating its patent-pending, patchless liquid transdermal delivery system, TDS(tm) in the delivery of Morphine Hydrochloride.

The study, overseen by Prof. Derek Willoughby and completed by Dr. Chandan A.S. Alam, M.D. of the Department of Experimental Pathology and Prof. Simon Joel of the Oncology Department at the William Harvey Institute at St. Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry measured the ability of the TDS technology to deliver Morphine HCL through the skin in a sufficient dose to accomplish a therapeutic outcome without a patch or other appliance. Data from the study confirmed company claims that the TDS technology enables rapid penetration and increased blood concentrations of morphine and the morphine was bioavailable as evidenced by the presence of the morphine metabolite, M-3-glucuronide in the bloodstream. The model for the study was the white rat. The results of the experiment showed an average blood level concentrations of over 170 nm / dL from a 2.5 mg dose in less than one hour. These levels equate to levels that would be seen after one hour when a 34mg IV dose is administered to a 70 Kg Man. It is also significant that even though the rat has a very fast metabolism and the drug would have been expected to be nearly cleared in 2-3 hours, experimental levels stayed relatively high for over 5 hours.

Given (1) the difficulty in penetrating skin, (2) the speed of the rat's metabolism which would be expected to rapidly metabolize and ultimtely clear the drug, and (3) the impossibility to date of making morphine penetrate any skin, the results accomplished by the TDS Morphine are very encouraging.

Morphine, while the most effective drug for chronic relief of serious pain, has until now been virtually impossible to deliver across intact human skin except as an injection or IV infusion. The Company intends to conduct further clinical trials to document the TDS's ability to accomplish pain relief with a relatively small dose.

TransDermal Technologies is actively seeking a licensing partner interested in exploiting this technology.

TransDermal Technologies' TDS is a platform system that is designed to be modified for each application and is believed to enable the rapid, safe and effective delivery of many medicaments across intact skin by means of its sprayed on lotions. The Company is currently testing Acylovir in similar trials at the William Harvey Institute in London.
